Gardening News...

All students (maybe) have now planted seeds which are rapidly growing into seedlings almost ready to be planted in gardens and pots. These plants will be brought home before spring break (unless a student requests we hold theirs at school until they return) to be planted at their homes. I will spent time this week or next talking about ideas of how they can grow a plant or two without a garden. Our gardens here at GMS have been planted and are slowly growing lettuce seedlings, but the big news is our new hoop-style greenhouse behind the school. Please check out the Glenvar Garden website for pictures and information.

April 11-15: This Week in Science

This week we will investigate the second half of the weather unit: Clouds and Weather Maps. The three main types of clouds is a review from elementary school. Students should remember the characteristics of cumulus, cirrus, and stratus clouds and be able to identify them outside. We began that last week, but this week we will put everything together by learning how surface level weather maps are created and understood. Studying weather maps is a great way to unify the skills we have learned in this unit. There will be several graded activities, but I cannot say at this time when the next graded quiz will occur.
