November 29-December 3: This Week in Science

Monday is the 2nd nine weeks midpoint. Students will receive their Renewable Energy quiz and will be offered the chance for a retest on Tuesday or Wednesday, providing parents have signed the original quiz. Any student who would like to have their retested grade count in the interim average must take the retest on Tuesday. There will be no exceptions to this. Students may still retest on Wednesday, but their new grade will not be reflected in the interim average.

On Monday I will conduct my own version of an "item analysis" in trying to determine reasons for success and failure on this quiz. We will go over the study guide and highlight those characteristics which were used on the quiz and discuss their meaning. The quiz will be taped into the interactive notebook on the page following the study guide. All retests grades will be averaged with the original grade to determine the new grade.

On Tuesday we will move on to our next notepage, "Transforming Energy." This is the study of how energy is transformed, particularly as we generate electricity using fossil fuels. Beginning on Wednesday, students will view "Kilowatt Ours," a documentary on the production of electricity in the southeastern United States. Students will be given "Your Personal Energy Survey" and they should complete it for homework with parents on Wednesday or Thursday night. It is due on Friday.
