This week we will complete our mini-unit on Matter and begin our next unit on Energy. On Monday and Tuesday students will work on a small art project in class which will take the place of a test. We will go over the periodic table of elements, using the Bohr model as a method to understand the formation of molecules and compounds. Students will select an element and draw a picture of its atoms using the information they learn. See Blackboard for the assignment and handouts. This will be due no later than Wednesday at the beginning of class. On Wednesday I'll give out the new unit organizer on Energy and review the unit content and expectations. On Wednesday and Thursday the students will view a good video which introduces all of the standards they will be expected to learn, and they will complete a small quiz based on the video. On Friday they will work from the book, covering Chapter 15, Sections One and Two.
Homework:
- Monday: Review Understanding the Periodic Table of Elements handout. Parents should check on progress of element project, although it is being completed in class. (I will not take these up before Tuesday)
- Tuesday: Students MUST complete their element project if it has not been turned in. It is due at the beginning of science class for a quiz grade.
- Wednesday: No homework (students may review the Energy Unit Organizer in preparation for the Thursday video)
- Thursday and Friday: No homework
