I hope your child told you that as of last Friday my sixth grade science students had donated well over $500 toward Haiti relief. The outpouring of checks, bills, and change was amazing. Every afternoon I emptied the jar that stayed on my desk, counted the money with my 7th pd. class (or after-school helpers), and wrote a check to Angel Missions Haiti for the amount received that day. The students earned some rewards as we accumulated donations, and the money collected so quickly that I couldn't keep up with the incentives. On Friday they earned root beer floats while they enjoyed a game day, and we have a few more rewards on the board for me to work in as soon as possible. Right now students should be looking for recipes they would like the class to make on our "cooking day." This time it doesn't have to include greens from the garden!
In science, we had several delays which kept us from completing last week's plans. On Tuesday, all students should turn in the workbook pages for Comets, Asteroids, and Meteors. We will discuss these and finish the section on the Sun and the Moon. I expect to pass out the directions for the solar system project by Tuesday or Wednesday.
