Students should understand the parts of an experiment, as shown on pages 7 and 19 in their interactive notebook. These are explained on p. 20. I am most concerned about the student understanding of manipulated and responding variables. We practiced these at the garden today with the following example:
Using this hypothesis: "I think Garden Three will grow the most vegetables." From that hypothesis the manipulated variable (aspect of change or comparison) is Garden Three and the responding variable (the outcome looked for) is grow the most vegetables.
